Both should be in stores by this April and it should be noted that the Rebel XSi will be available in silver and black finishes and Canon will also offer the BG-E5 battery grip for the new camera. Canon’s true optical, lens shift image stabilizer offers users an equivalent shutter speed that is approximately 4 settings faster, making hand-held lower light or long zoom photos easier to capture without blurring. What’s more, the lens can automatically distinguish between normal shooting and panning shots and select the optimum Image Stabilizer mode for each. Canon’s DIGIC III Image Processor dramatically enhances image quality and speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel XSi’s sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations.
Advanced shooters will appreciate that the Rebel has spot metering and Highlight Tone Priority in its arsenal; the latter lets you retain a bit more detail in highlights, though you lose ISO 100 when you do so. A noise-reduction mode helps control noise at high ISOs. Adding on the optional 18-55 IS (Image stabilized) lens makes for an easy to always have on hand camera that gives exceptional images considering its price. The construction isn’t on par with the much more expensive Canon cameras like the 40D but for the majority of consumers who want to step up from their pocket-sized cameras into something with more capability and control, the Rebel XSi is worth a good look. Additionally, the new camera is equipped with Canon’s Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image brightness and contrast automatically. Introduced last year in the EOS 40D camera, this valuable optional feature now works in all exposure modes and utilizes Face Detection technology to prevent underexposure with backlit faces.
