Hot Wheels Cars are a Hot Item
Did you or anyone you know ever collect Hot Wheels Cars? A few years back, my mother-in-law started buying these cute little things for my son because of an article she’d read where some guy had all the Hot Wheels cars made in 1974, still in their packages. He sold the entire set at auction for something like $1500. Wow. So, she bought every Hot Wheels car she could find between 1993 and 1997. I don’t know that we’ve got any full sets, but I know that right now my son has 3 huge boxes of unopened Hot Wheels cars in his closet.
So, I decided to run over to Ebay and see what these little cars are going for these days, if anything at all. I was kind of shocked. Of course, 1 or 2 cars aren’t making a lot of money, but some are. I found one auction where the seller is offering 3 2006 First Editions, still in their packages. The thing is that all three cars are exactly alike. It’s not 3 different cars from the set, but 3 of the same cars, and the bidding is already at more than $20. These cars probably only cost the seller less than a dollar each, and they’re going to end up with nearly $25 or more before the sale ends.
There are, of course, exceptions to this. There are a few cars on Ebay right now, that aren’t selling at all. A lot of that has to do with the initial price that the sellers have them listed at. One seller has a lot of 47 cars, and starts the bidding at $47 plus $17.50 S&H. Not one person has bid on that lot and there’s less than 15 minutes to go at the time of this post. So, just because a person has a slue of cars still in the package, doesn’t mean it’s worth much to the rest of the world.
If you or someone you know is a collector of Hot Wheels cars, check out Ebay. It’s a great way to either add to your already existing collection, or a way to earn a little money from the cars you’ve got stashed away. I may have to go through my son’s collection and see if there’s anything worth selling, that is if he’s willing to part with any of them.

HotWheels were my favorite when I was a kid. I have tons and tons of them. My favorites were the ones that had the rubber wheels and the ones where the doors and hood opened up. Over the span of my childhood I had over 1000 of them.
My mom has them now… over the years as an adult we’ve considering handing them down to my own kids… but they might be worth something so we just by new ones at WalMart.

I was shocked at the price on some Hot Wheels. I don’t know how many cars we’ve got, but I’ve got 6 good sized boxes sitting in my room right now, full of cars still in their packages.

Ah… can you say, “EBAY” lol!!!
nah.. you kinda do have to be careful on eBay with items like that. Unless things have dramatically changed since my last auction about a year ago… I had some trouble selling my stuff. I actually had to promote my auction on my blog to get traffic to it. eBay wasn’t sending me any traffic what so ever. I even upgraded and did the feature auction and all the little upgrades, etc…

Actually, hot wheels cars are selling big on Ebay right now. the only problem is that some people out there have figured out how to package “fakes”. Yes, that’s right. People are actually selling fake hot wheels cars on Ebay.
