HP TouchSmart 4th of July Sales

The HP TouchSmart looks pretty cool and many stores are now selling it. In fact, quite a few stores are advertising a HP TouchSmart 4th of July Sales event and are trying to spike more business. Companies such as BestBuy Circuit City, OfficeMaxx, Office Depot and many more places. HP is doing very well with adding the hype to this computer system. If you are looking to purchase one, I would take a look at the various HP TouchSmart 4th of July Sales ads found in your local newspaper as well as on the Internet.

Here is the description of the HP TouchSmart. Check this out, it’s actually pretty cool sounding.

Hewlett-Packard’s redesigned TouchSmart PC solves at least one of the problems of the original. The new look stays much truer to that of a traditional all-in-one, leaving behind last year’s clunky hinged design (that we admit we kind of liked). The $1,499 TouchSmart PC IQ506 also shares an issue with the original model, in that it’s not as fast as it should be for its price. In the post-iPhone era, we also find the TouchSmart’s touch functionality less charming than we did last year. We don’t recommend this new TouchSmart as a traditional deskbound computer, but it does work as a walk-up kiosk/entertainment center, and it has a respectable number of features to help with the task.

Similar to the Averatec All-in-One we reviewed last week, one of the TouchSmart’s chief advantages over Apple’s 20-inch iMac (not counting the touch sensitivity) is its 22-inch LCD. But at $1,499, the TouchSmart is only $300 less than the $1,799 24-inch iMac, which, in addition to the larger screen, has an even faster CPU and a more robust 3D chip. That’s something to consider with this higher-end TouchSmart, although HP also offers a lower-end model, the IQ504 with the same size screen for $1,299.

As an engineer I don’t get the appeal of the touch screen, and the fact that even a regular desk top computer isn’t exactly ergonomic for humans in general, which has lead to carpel tunnel syndrome in some people. constantly having to raise your hand to a screen involves even more repetitive motion, and being a person that stands at workstation I still don’t know how this PC is going to sell. We use most of our touch screen terminals as a replacement to a keypad. The users aren’t constantly using the terminals to input information, they’re just selecting different functions, and then moving onto something e.g. starting a machine process or stopping it. HP hasn’t been hitting a lot of home runs over the past several years some of the business decision have not done well, as well as all the internal problems with that company during Carley Fiorini’s tenure as CEO maybe she’ll do better as John McCain’s economic adviser.
