Things to remember when selling online

In my previous post, I talked about being a smart shopper online. This time, I want to talk about being a good seller. It doesn’t matter if you’re selling a couple unwanted items on Ebay, or are looking into starting your own Internet store, there are still a few things to keep in mine.

First and foremost, you’ve got to know what you’re in for. Most people out there, looking to buy something, are hard-working, decent folks. However, there are a few people out there who look for the bad in everything and are never satisfied. If you’re going to sell something over the Internet, make sure you tell your buyers everything there is to tell about the product. Otherwise, someone will find your mistake, and be more than happy to show it off to the rest of the world. If you’re selling a vase, and there’s a tiny crack in it, make sure you tell people that.

Descriptions are everything online. Even if you’ve posted a picture of your object, tell your potential customers everything you can about it. What kind of finish does it have? What makers marks are on it? Do you know any history about the object? If so, add that too. The more you can tell your buyers, the better.

Another thing to remember when selling things online, is to make sure you state as to whether all sales are final, or if you are willing to give refunds in problematic situations. If you come right out and tell your potential buyers that this is the product, this is the condition it is in, and all sales are final, chances are you won’t have to deal with refunds. That being said, accidents happen. If you’re willing to bend a little when things go wrong, you could end up with a regular customer.

If you’re thinking of starting an online store from your own site, or just a page where you can sell a few of your goodies, you’re going to need some kind of shopping cart software. You can have some of the coolest things on the planet, but if you can’t accept your customers money, you’re in trouble. Most Internet buyers have PayPal accounts, so getting a shopping cart software that is compatible with PayPal is the smart way to go. However, this isn’t your only option.

Finally, think like a customer. Ask yourself what you’d like to see in a sales pitch. If you put yourself in your customers shoes, it’s a good bet that you’ll be making a sale in no time flat.
