What are my Beanie Babies worth?
Remember a few years back when everyone was collecting Beanie Babies because they were going to be worth something someday? Well, those of us who collected them are still waiting for that day. I was one of the smarter ones, as I didn’t end up spending hundreds of dollars on these little stuffed darlings. I was blessed with friends who thought my kids needed them for “the future”. So, what are my Beanie Babies worth these days? Not much more than they were when they were new.
There are, of course, a few exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, Beanie Babies are only worth about the same amount of money as they were bought for 10 years ago. The thing about Beanie Babies is that they have to be in pristine condition, with Ty® Tags intact, in order to even get noticed. The slightest imperfections in your Beanie Babies will automatically drop the value, no matter how old they are, unless these imperfections happened during the production of the stuffed animal.
I took a little cruise through Ebay today, just to see what Beanie Babies were selling for, and which ones were generating any interest. What I found was that individual pieces were either only selling for a small amount, or not at all. The biggest sellers were those that were selling several Beanie Babies at one time. Even then, I found that they weren’t selling for the prices that were imagined a few years back.
Ironically, I found that the individual pieces that were selling the best were all newer designs. The one that really caught my attention was Donkey from the Shrek the Third movie. This one Beanie Baby was a single lot and the bidding was already over $24.00 plus S&H. That was the only one that was showing any increase in value.
So, it seems that if we Beanie Baby collectors are ever to see our treasure make a profit, we’ll be needing to hang on to them for a few more years. Because like everything else we die-hard collectors keep around us, I’m sure they’ll be worth something someday.
