What is My McCoy Pottery Worth

I am a collector of McCoy pottery. It started when my uncle gave me an old pitcher right after my husband and I got married. I thought it was the gaudiest thing I’d ever seen in my life, until I turned it over and saw the makers mark on the bottom. There in all it’s glory, was a mark that I had seen in my grandmother’s kitchen more than once.

Since then, I’ve acquired a few more pieces, from auctions and garage sales, but I never really new if they were worth anything or not. As I was searching the Internet, trying to find out what a few of these pieces were worth, I found the official McCoy Pottery site.

There is a lot of information on this site about the history of Nelson McCoy and the pottery that bares his name. There is a section that shows and describes the various McCoy marks that have come down throughout the years. I looked at the mark on my pitcher and found out that it was made sometime between 1939 and the time I received it, which didn’t tell me much more than I already knew.

I did check out the forum on this site, and found a lot more information. This is a great resource for anyone wanting more information on their pottery. There’s a section where you can ask the experts about your piece, information on how to tell fakes from the real thing, and even a place where you can announce that you’re looking for or selling a specific item.

I did find that this site is still under construction and I do hope that they finish the site as I really think this could end up being a huge resource for all McCoy collectors. I’ll be checking back time and again to see what’s new in the world of McCoy.

    Hi Christine

Although I have a couple of pieces of McCoy I wouldn’t consider my self a collector. One piece I own does have some value to me. It is a pair of cowboy boots lamp. My grandmother sent it to me when I was 3 years old. My parents were stationed in Italy. The lamp shade is long since gone but the boots are perfect. I reacquired this peice from my mother about 10 years ago.

I have always had an interest in art pottery and am partial to Roseville. I created the above site (still under construction) and if you watch it for a while you will start to get a feel for what stuff is worth. I learned a long time ago that what someting is worth and what something sells for is generally two different figures. eBay balances things out nicely.

    Hey thanks Bob.

Since I last posted this, I did find out that one of my pieces, a big smiley face coffee mug, was made in the 70’s, and because so many of them were made, it’s worth about $10 right now. LOL

    Thanks for stopping by.
