What is your vintage jewelry worth?
I’m a huge fan of vintage jewelry. I have several pieces that my grandmother gave me, as well as several I’ve picked up at garage and estate sales. I got to wondering whether or not any of those pieces might be worth something. So I jumped on eBay just to check it out. I was kind of in shock.
Well, first of all, it depends on which keywords you type in as to what you end up with. Vintage, antique, and retro jewelry all bring up different selections. Of course, there are a few pieces that cross all lines, but for the most part, it’s different jewelry.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve learned so far. Vintage jewelry is hot right now. Bulk lots are doing better than most single pieces, but there are a few pieces that are going for a lot of money. Many of these are signed, so check out those old pieces and look for makers marks.
I’ve also found that brooches are doing very well right now. What shocked me was that those big, metal flowers from the 60’s are selling pretty good right now too. I’ve got a bunch of those and never thought they’d be worth anything. Boy was I wrong.
Signed pieces are doing great. One maker I kept seeing over and over again was Sarah Coventry. I remember this name from when I was a kid. It seemed like all the women I knew had to show off their “Sarah Coventry” jewelry. Now, it’s selling as vintage jewelry.
If you’ve got a bunch of vintage costume jewelry that you weren’t sure what to do with, go check out Ebay. Right now seems to be the perfect time to make some room in your jewelry box, while putting a few bucks in your pocket.
