Writing For Profit

I’ve spent that past couple of days looking for new ways of making a little extra money online. I’m not the kind of person who believes that you can make a billion dollars in a week with any type of program, so I’ve been looking into working more with my writing. You can sell your writing online, and make real money from it. I’m not talking about writing an e-book that nobody’s going to read. I’m talking about sharing information with others.

I’ve found a few new places, that might have some real potential. I’ve signed up with a couple of them, just to see whether they were worth it or not. I’m a little impressed with one of them, but that’s also because I was having a lot of fun with the site. Another one has possibilities, but I’ll have to work with it a little more to make a full decision.

The first site I’m talking about is called Xomba.com. It’s a neat little site with a big social atmosphere. On this site, members post 2 types of information. One is called Xombytes and the other is called Xomblurbs. Xombytes are posts of at least 100 words on a variety of topics. You can talk about world news, history, business, or just post stories and poetry. Xomblurbs are micro reviews combined with a link to an article or website you think others might enjoy. On each of your posts, you share Google Ads with the site. It’s a 50/50 sharing, and some people are claiming that they are earning as much as $50 a month through this site. I’m giving it a shot, but I’m not expecting miracles.

The next site I’ve signed up with is called BlogBurner.com. This is another 50/50 Google Ad sharing site, but with a twist. In a nutshell, it’s a lot like Blogger. You get your own blog to write about whatever you want. Then, each time you write a post, it’s placed at the top of the list on the main website. When you sign up, you get your own Wordpress blog, a few options for themes, and the ability to post about things you enjoy. The only thing I don’t like about this site is that you can’t add your own RSS feeds, other forms of advertising, and you really have limited options in your blogs theme. However, it’s worth my time as an experiment. If I make a couple extra bucks with the site, which I’ve titled Blu’s News, I’ll be happy.

Another site you might be interested in is called HubPages. This is a cross between a blogging community and a social network. Here, you get your own spot, or hub, and you provide information on whatever you want. However, it has to be viable information or the members will let you know about it. Again, you enter your Google Adsense code in the proper form and share the profits with the site. On the plus side, you can also add your Amazon.com code, and have relevant Amazon ads on each of your posts.

Finally, I wanted to tell you about is called BlogTalent.com. Now, I haven’t signed up for this one personally. Not yet anyway. This is basically a talent agency online. You have to fill out an application to be considered for the site. If you’re accepted, you’re name and application will be seen by prospective webmasters in need of writers. Also, if you happen to be a webmaster in search of writers, you fill out a different form to be added to their database. If you’re an expert in certain areas, this might be the place to check out.

Stop by any of these sites and see for yourself. If you’re looking for a place to write, but can’t afford your own website, this might be the place to start. Each of these sites is free to join, and easy to get started in. All you’ve got to do is write.

Nice list Christine, especially for those who do not wish to self host their own site.

Thanks honey. I had so much fun researching this site. It’s amazing what you can find if you put your nose to the grindstone.
